What’s New in Summerville?

Summerville, SC....What's new around town?

Some people resent the growth and development of Summerville, SC and wish it was the small quaint town of years past. And while the small-town feel has been preserved in a lot of ways, you can’t ignore some of the nuances of growth such as traffic and congestion. However, with growth brings exciting new businesses, eateries, and attractions.

Here’s the scoop on some of the exciting new places to visit around town.

The Azeala Bar and Garden

This upscale cocktail lounge is set to open on April 7, 2022. I first saw the announcement in Azalea Magazine about this lounge back last Spring and have been patiently waiting. For me, the excitement and curiosity about this establish is in part because you can’t really find much info about it. They have a facebook page with a handful of beautiful pictures, but otherwise, very limited information. A quick search on the web doesn’t reveal much more. However, the pictures I do see, show sophisticated crafted cocktails that almost look too pretty to drink. And the décor appears to be old world meets modern with lush finishes and deep rich colors. I can’t wait to learn more about this establishment and try it out for a date night with Kevin or even for a girl’s night out. Who’s in?

Bexley Summerville

This new quaint restaurant has gotten a lot of buzz since it opened in late January. If you just scroll through some pics on social media, you’ll see why. The food looks fresh, creative, and delicious. The owner is Chef Jeremy Holst who is a Charleston native and who now resides in Summerville. His resume is impressive as he has been the executive chef locally for NICO, Anson, The Woodlands, and The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island. Bexley offers an ever-changing menu using fresh and simple ingredients. Think fresh seafood, oysters, and whole fish. Don’t expect to be able to make reservations, it’s first come first serve walk-ins only. Check them out at 100 W. Richardson Ave in Downtown Summerville.

Perfectly Franks

This one will hopefully be the comeback of the year! For those of you new to Summerville, Perfectly Franks used to be a local hotdog joint that was a favorite! It was in the building that Groucho’s is currently. Many people were surprised (they were always busy) and sad (they had the best hotdogs) to see it close a few years ago. A few weeks ago, we learned that Perfectly Franks was planning on opening in Summer’s Corner.  No official opening date has been announced as of today, but it does look like they will bring back at least a few of the old favorites, plus incorporating some new things??? Recently hung signs leads one to believe they will have hamburgers, coffee and maybe deserts? Frank, those of us on this side of town can only hope. It’s still hard to find details, but I am eager and excited for the re-opening…hopefully soon!
